Normally held on the last Sunday of each month, start in March and run through each month to August when we hold the St. Oswald Cup. As previously, this is a handicap competition, only one Cup which can be won by anybody, whatever ability and whatever bow type they shoot. However, it is important that members establish a handicap by shooting three competition rounds and submitting the signed scores to our Records Officer.
18th August - St Oswald's Cup
Today, we hosted our last inter club monthly competition, we shot a double Warwick with a break in between to enjoy a fabulous BBQ expertly cooked by Joan & Charlie, grateful thanks to them and all members who contributed food & drink for the occasion, safe to say food was enjoyed by all in a lovely sunny day. Grateful thanks to Tony for arranging and calculating winners and losers!!! All in all a fabulous fun filled day enjoyed by all.
Over each month there have been 27 members participating at one or more events, with 17 having entered scores for 3 or more of them. So, with the 3 best scores going into the League, we now have a winner.......
Congratulations go to Hannah for her 1st place, but also to Donna for 2nd place (with myself coming 3rd).
28th July - Windsor
Glorious day for archery today and the latest monthly club competition. This month was a "Windsor", which is 6 ends each at 3 distances. Scores were mixed but most people were shooting pretty near their handicap level and one or two even beating it.
Together with the previous month's score we now have 12 members in the running for the summer Outdoor League trophy, but as there are only 25 points separating the top 3 on the leaderboard there is everything to play for in next month's St. Oswald's Cup, the last competition in the series.
But for today, well done to Rob Jones coming first and also John Taylor coming third despite shooting the whole competition with a not fully assembled bow.
Only 10 archers on the day, however they still managed 8 club records between them!
23rd June - American
The forth of our club monthly competitions was held today in perfect weather. As for all our informal comps, a handicap scoring provides a winner for the day and all scores contribute towards the summer's Outdoor League trophy.
Of the six monthly competitions over the outdoor season, each archer's three best scores are put forward to the league table. Today with the forth comp we now have 9 contenders for the trophy, i.e. nine members have entered at least three of the four so far. Next month there is a potential for another seven members to be included - if they enter the end-July event.
But for now, the Winner for today was, well, me, and nobody was more surprised. Those new arrows I made really make a difference. Needless to say, further congratulations go to Hannah Mosford cming 3rd and Caroline Leek coming 2nd.
2nd June (postponed) - Western
The third of our monthly competitions for this outdoor season. A smaller field of participants this time but perfect weather. It was a metric round this time, which required a bit of a change around of the targets (you will have noticed in the lead-up to Sunday).
The competition itself was won by Donna Bottomley shooting barebow who exceeded her expected score by some considerable margin. Second place went to John Taylor(barebow) and third to Sally Taylor (compound). A hearty congratulations go to all three.
28th April - National
Today we continued with the schedule for the summer outdoor season with the second of the monthly club competitions.
15 members took part and together enjoyed the shoot. Luckily, the rain held off, but the cold and blustery wind was a challenge. This month featured a commonly-shot competition round, a “National,” consisting of 8 ends at one distance followed by 4 ends at a shorter distance. At the end, collating the results, congratulations go to the following archers:
Well done to all who took part, and congratulations to Hannah, who shot exceptionally well (You really do need to start shooting at longer distances!), as well as Chris, who is doing well with his longbow, and Phil, who just keeps pushing himself, which is clearly paying off.
31st March - Warwick
An enjoyable start to the summer outdoor season yesterday with the first of the monthly club competitions.
14 members registered and together enjoyed a rare day without rain, although it was a bit cold. Starting with an easy competition Round, a Warwick is 4-ends at one distance then 4-ends at a second, shorter distance. At the end, collating the results, congratulations go to the following archers:
In addition, we have to look at how yesterday’s scores have impacted Club Records, and we have 7 new Club Records records:
Vlad Morozov: Barebow, Senior Men, Warwick 40, Score: 380
Alec Griffiths: Recurve, Senior Men, Warwick 50, Score: 380
Natalie Whyte: Recurve, Senior Ladies, Warwick 40, Score: 382
Phil Morris: Recurve, Men, 50+, Warwick 40, Score: 365
